As public space evolves, nature’s contribution to the value of a person’s experience is becoming more appreciated. Municipalities, private developers and architects are increasingly prioritizing the outdoor environment when considering a project. Often, the success of a project is directly related to the beautiful space it inhabits.
The landscape architect’s early involvement in land development is critical. Proper planning of fundamental elements like parking, site utilities, lighting and building placement can be the cohesive approach that turns a singular “new building” into a holistic “great project”.
The final convergence of the built environment and the natural site, is realized through the planting plan. The possible advantages of selecting the right plant for the right place are endless. Thoughtful planting can improve the user’s experience through aesthetics while also improving the overall environmental impact of a project through storm water management. Nature is a powerful partner.
